Hibiscus Sabdariffa is an annual which grows in sub-tropical
regions and particularly in Egypt where it is known as “Karkade”
and in Syria and Ethiopia as “Pink tea”.
Only the flower’s calyx and the cannula are used.
Harvested during the fructification phase, flowers are dried prior to use.
They have a high organic acid content and also contain mucilage which has
a cough smoothening effect.
Hibiscus can be drunk hot or iced.
Hibiscus flowers are often associated with wild rose or mallow for their soothing effect in gastro-intestinal spasms.
